winter on the farm

Its end of July here on the farm . So our lettuce has been struggling both with sales and growth.Luckily we also do spinach herbs and onions which gives us a bit of a range to sell .Winter is so difficult even here in this beautiful city . No one seems to want to go out ,but then with the cold wet med weather who can blame them . So we concentrate on spinach and herbs now and they seem to be doing well , especially our baby mixed herb product .We are also lucky during this time there are a few international races in Capetown like the Argus or Two Oimg_5376ceans which draw people .Its dryer this winter so expecting late rains ,however we have had a few mornings with frost ,thank goodness for the shade nets .The government  keeps on insisting that agriculture will help their unemployment however  most of the young men who I have employed on the farm have had no intention working on a farm and have almost all left under bad circumstance .Its only the women that have remained and were willing to work as they had dependents whereas the young men live for today .
